What is Finasteride 1mg?
Finasteride 1mg tablets are a prescription-only treatment for male pattern baldness (androgenic alopecia). Available only via prescription in the UK, they are one of the most clinically established oral hair loss treatments available.
How does it work?
Finasteride is an inhibitor of the enzyme 5-alpha reductase, which converts testosterone into DHT (dihydrotestosterone). DHT causes hair follicles to weaken and shrink, leading to thinning and shedding. By reducing DHT levels by approximately 70%, Finasteride allows follicles to recover and produce healthier hair. It works best when started at the earlier stages of hair thinning.
How to take it
Take one tablet once daily, whole (do not crush or break), with or without food, at the same time each day.
How long does it take to work?
Most men notice a stabilisation of hair loss within 3–6 months of daily use, with peak hair growth typically achieved at 2 years. Treatment must be continued every day to maintain results — stopping will cause DHT levels to rise again and benefits will typically reverse within 9–12 months.

Important pregnancy warning
If your partner is pregnant, they must not handle Finasteride tablets. Use condoms during treatment as Finasteride can be secreted in semen and may potentially harm a foetus.
